  • Google Chromecast

    chromecast

Chromecast is the easy way to enjoy online video and anything from the web on your TV. Plug it into any HDTV and control it with your existing smartphone, tablet or computer browser. It currently only works with Netflix, Hulu Plus, You Tube, and Google Play. Google will be adding more provides in the near future.

It comes with the Chromecast adapter, power supply, usb cable, HDMI extension cable. I would recommend using the power supply it comes with instead of using the power of the USB port on your TV, this will allow the TV to be turned on and have the input source switch to the correct HDMI port using your smartphone or tablet.

So far Netflix streaming takes a few seconds to load but hopefully Google and Netflix will be working on making it fast to load. Also Chromecast works over WiFi so much should you have good receptions in the area you plan to deploy this.

I would recommend this for both Android users and iOS users, I have it and it been great. I am happy I got this instead of a new BluRay player which would have cost me a lot more. Chromecast is just $35 and it’s a great value.

    Update 11/6/2013:

Chromecast new supports Pandora which is great, so now you can play your favorite music player on the TV.

  • Fastest USB 3.0 Media Card Reader

The Kingston USB 3.0 Media Reader is a really fast multi card reader that reads the following cards:
CompactFlash, CF Type I (UDMA 0-6), CF Type II (UDMA 0-6), SD, SDHC, SDHC UHS-I, SDXC, SDXC UHS-I, microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC, Memory Stick/M2, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick M2

It’s not as portable as the IOGEAR SuperSpeed USB 3.0 SD but it’s more durable and does support more card types.

It’s a nice design with a cool red logo, the part number is FCR-HS3 and can be found on amazon.com for around $23.

  • Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac

The new Office 2011 for Mac OS X is really cool, it’s all been redesign to look more like Office 2010 for Windows and now include ribbon.
Also they have removed Entourage and replaced it with Outlook for Mac which is huge improvement over what Mac enterprise users had to use in the past.

I haven’t used Apple iWorks ’09 enough to compare it with the new MS Office 2011.

Thank you Microsoft for finally taking care of Mac users.
